Context

During its six-year mission, Euclid will cover nearly a third of the sky, observing billions of galaxies that are as far away as10 billion light-years from Earth. Although dark energy and dark matter are invisible, astronomers can work out where dark matter is by observing the effect of its gravity on light and on other nearby objects. They will also measure how fast the universe is expanding to discover dark energy’s strength.

Explanations and Usages

When we talk about “work out” something, it means to solve or figure out a problem or situation in a detailed way. It’s like using your brain muscles to find the answers or come up with a solution.

For example, in math class, when you have a tricky problem, you’d work it out step by step to find the right answer. Similarly, in science experiments, you work out the process to understand the results or solve a scientific mystery. It’s about breaking things down and finding the solution by carefully going through the details.

In essence, “work out” in everyday usage means diving into the specifics, thinking things through, and finding solutions or understanding through careful examination and consideration of details.

Examples
  • Students work out complex equations by applying multiple mathematical formulas.
  • During the science lab, our class worked out the properties of various substances through careful experimentation, noting observations, and analyzing data to understand chemical reactions.

–Education

  • Big companies are working out new types of insurance policies for people who are interested in space travel.
  • In order to bolster Khanmigo’s precision in mathematics, Khan Academy’s developers devised a systematic method wherein the system works out solutions to math problems discreetly and then validates them against the student’s provided answers.

–Business

  • The two international companies are trying to work out a settlement to solve this issue.
  • He believes that as tech companies upgrade their systems and put them to work for assistance, they will effectively work out more tangible issues that A.I. faces, including its tendency to provide incorrect information.

–Technology

  • Scientists from MIT worked out how much organic carbon is present in rocks near the surface.
  • Mathematicians consider working out the pattern within a problem as a crucial step, which can be quite challenging and may take several years to discover certain mathematical theories.

Science

  • Before we can work out the energy levels in various foods and beverages, we should begin by understanding a few essential concepts.
  • Cameron was still trying to work out the ending for “Titanic Depression,” cobbling together a scene from a discarded plastic straw, a Lou Reed song, and a gown created from garbage.
