The lunar calendar contained extra months introduced so that 7 such introductions in each 19 years almost kept the lunar calendar in time with the solar year. Thus 235 lunar months were equal to 19 solar years. The summer solstice was systematically computed, and the winter solstice and the equinoxes were placed at equal intervals. This calendar was used by theJews and Greeks and by the Romans up to 45 B.C., the year the Julian calendar was adopted.
