The largest town, Pueblo Bonito, had about twelve hundred inhabitants and was the home of two Great Kivas, each about fifty feet in diameter. People traveled over the roads from the satellites to Chaco Canyon’s large kivas for religious ceremonies. The canyon was also a major trade center, with links to Mesoamerica, the Great Plains, the Mississippi valley, and California.
