Context of Contrapuntal
Western music exerted a powerful influence globally in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries at the very moment when film music was developing; thus it played a large part in the history of musical accompaniment around the world. And it is the musical system with which most English-speaking readers will be familiar. In this material, however, some examples from non-Western musics will be included, which I hope will function as a contrapuntal voice as well as a reminder that Western music is only one kind of music among many worldwide.
Examples with Contrpuntal
When they’re playing their best, Henry and Angel, who work together in the forward line, move up and down like a contrapuntal see-saw. This helps them get the attention of defenders and make room for each other in a way that complements each other.
