The world of Nintendo’s popular Super Mario video games has expanded to the big screen. The Super Mario Bros. Movie, an animated action-adventure, is now playing in theaters.

The character of Mario, a plumber, has been a video game icon since appearing in Donkey Kong in 1981. In 1985, he began starring in his own games, which are set in the Mushroom Kingdom. The film tells the story of how Mario and his brother, Luigi, ended up there and has many Mario game characters.
